Football Recap: Sutton Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

While Sutton's victory against Tri County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mustangs skirted past the Trojans 24-22. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted since August 30, 2024.

Griffin Bergen had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 152 yards and two scores. Those 152 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Sutton also got a significant boost from Creighton Jones, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 90 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Sutton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 304 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tri County only rushed for 52.

Sutton's defense stepped up as well, laying out Trevor Kapke three times. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Bergen and Aydin Banta, who each picked up 1.5 sacks apiece.

Sutton's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.5 points over those games. As for Tri County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

Sutton will challenge Bloomfield at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Connor Hinrichs and Brock Jeannoutot. Tri County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
