Soccer Preview: Princeton vs. Goldsboro
The Princeton Bulldogs are taking a road trip to take on the Goldsboro Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Princeton took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They beat Eastern Wayne by a goal, winning 3-2. Even though Princeton got in a bit of trouble with the refs ( Makenna Hoffman was handed a red card), the team managed to overcome the adversity.
Macie Allison was the driving force of Princeton's attack as she scored all three of Princeton's goals, bringing her season total up to 21 goals.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Goldsboro). They walked away with a 3-1 victory over Beddingfield on Thursday. Goldsboro haven't had any issues with Beddingfield recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Princeton's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 18 goals over those five matches. As for Goldsboro, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-8-3.
Princeton came out on top in a nail-biter against Goldsboro in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
