Coventry faced East Greenwich in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Oakers won by a set and slipped past the Avengers 3-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Oakers.
Coventry wouldn't go down easily and took East Greenwich into a fifth set where they got it done with a three-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-16, 19-25, 15-25, 15-12.
Coventry found their leader in sophomore Joseph Riley, who had six digs and two aces.
The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 4-7. As for East Greenwich, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
Coventry will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Avengers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
