Baseball Preview: Maplewood Tigers vs. Iroquois Braves

The Maplewood Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Iroquois Braves at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

After soaring to 11 runs the game before, Maplewood was a bit more limited in their game on Wednesday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (11-1), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest runs they have scored all season.

Maplewood saw one different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Paul Hirosky, who went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Meanwhile, sadly, Iroquois is still looking for their first win of the season after four matchups. They fell just short of Union City by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday.

Hunter Alderson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with a home run.

Maplewood now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Iroquois, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both teams have some strikeout artists on the roster. Maplewood has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Iroquois struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Maplewood took their victory against Iroquois in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 8-1. Will Maplewood repeat their success, or does Iroquois have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
