Softball Recap: Monday's Defeat Ends Oak Ridge's Winning Streak

Oak Ridge and Lockwood squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Oak Ridge had to settle for second. They came up short against the Tigers, falling 12-4. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Blue Jays, who until this match were averaging 1.81 runs allowed.

Kaelyn Deckerd was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and two runs.

Deckerd wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Madyson Ruehling, who went 2-for-4 with one run.

Oak Ridge moved to 24-3 with that loss, which also ended their ten-game winning streak. As for Lockwood, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 24-6.

Oak Ridge has already played their next game, a 3-2 win against Bernie on the 28th. As for Lockwood, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 defeat against Concordia on the 27th.
