Recap: Vero Beach Indians vs. Astronaut War Eagles
The Vero Beach Indians pushed their score all the way to 61 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Astronaut by a score of 64-61. Vero Beach lost against Astronaut in their previous head to head back in December of 2020, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 44-41 score last time.
Vero Beach lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jaylen Shelly, who scored 19 points. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Martinez, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
It was another big night for Cameron Mason, who scored 23 points for Astronaut. That makes it four consecutive games in which Mason has scored at least 25% of Astronaut's points. Another player making a difference was Shane Colvin Jr, who scored 14 points.
Vero Beach bumped their record down to 2-3 with that loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Astronaut, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Vero Beach will head out on the road to face off against Bayside at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bayside is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Astronaut, they will be playing at home against Viera at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
