Marianna extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 1-4. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Holmes County Blue Devils. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bulldogs have suffered since March 27, 2025.

Beau Swearingen was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Marianna saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cody Byrd, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Riley Adkison also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
As for Holmes County, they now have a winning record of 2-1. The win continues a trend for them in their matchups with Marianna: they've now won three in a row.
On Holmes County's side, Bryant Mathis made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts Mathis has posted since back in April of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on DJ Baggett, who went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Brady Corbitt, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Marianna didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 6-2 victory against Blountstown on the 19th. As for Holmes County, they will venture away from home to challenge Charles Henderson at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
