Softball Recap: Wallkill Comes Up Short

Wallkill lost to Saugerties back in April and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Panthers took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sawyers. That's two games in a row now that the Panthers have lost by exactly three runs.

Madison Auger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Wallkill saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gianna Allessandro, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles.

Wallkill has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-10-2 record this season. As for Saugerties, they moved to 8-6 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wallkill will take on Monroe-Woodbury at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Saugerties, they will square off against Kingston at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Sawyers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
