Football Game Preview: Lewis Mills Spartans vs. Avon Falcons

The Lewis Mills Spartans are taking a road trip to square off against the Avon Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lewis Mills has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since September 19.

Last Saturday, Lewis Mills ended up a good deal behind Northwest Catholic and lost 28-10. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked 126th, while the Lions are ranked 33rd).

Despite the defeat, Lewis Mills saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gryfn Kobylarz picked up 152 receiving yards and one TD. Kobylarz really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 72 yards.

Even if they lost, Lewis Mills' defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Jack Rewenko was especially locked on to Northwest Catholic's QB and sacked him twice. Lewis Mills got some further help from Nathan Bertrand: he picked up a sack and made five total tackles in addition to snagging an interception.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Avon's offense. They lost 25-0 to Rocky Hill last Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Falcons in their meetings with the Terriers: they've now lost three in a row.

Avon's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Lewis Mills, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 1-8.

Lewis Mills couldn't quite get it done against Avon in their previous matchup back in November of 2024 as they fell 26-13. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
