Softball Recap: Independence's Victory on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to 13

Independence had already won 12 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it 13 on Wednesday. They came out on top against the A.L. Brown Wonders by a score of 7-4. For the Patriots, this counts as revenge for the 11-1 victory the Wonders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2016.

Maliyah Alexander spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on 12 hits.

On the hitting side, Natalie Johnson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Sydnee Platt, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Independence pushed their record up to 18-2 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for A.L. Brown, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-7-1 record this season.

Independence will be playing at home against Butler at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for A.L. Brown, they are taking a road trip to face off against Hickory Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wonders will need to watch out since the Ragin' Bulls have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
