Softball Game Preview: Egg Harbor Township Eagles vs. Mainland Regional Mustangs

Egg Harbor Township has gone 8-2 against Mainland Regional recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. Mainland Regional took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Egg Harbor Township, who comes in off a win.

If Egg Harbor Township beats Mainland Regional with 14 runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Everything went the Eagles' way against Cedar Creek on Monday as they made off with a 14-4 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Gabi Jones made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Egg Harbor Township got a massive performance out of Kaci Velardi, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Velardi is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Spatacco, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Mainland Regional was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 17-4 to Ocean City.

Egg Harbor Township's record is now 7-12. As for Mainland Regional, their loss dropped their record down to 2-14.

Egg Harbor Township took their win against Mainland Regional when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
