Basketball Recap: Ocosta Comes Up Short

If Ocosta was feeling good fresh off their 55-30 takedown of North Beach last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The match between the Ocosta Wildcats and the Willapa Valley Vikings didn't end well, with the Ocosta Wildcats falling 58-41. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 50-29 back in January.

Despite the defeat, Ocosta saw an underclassman step up: freshman Luis Solis posted 11 points along with eight boards and four steals. Those four steals gave Solis a new career-high. Jesus Agramon was another key player, going 6 of 15 en route to 13 points and six assists.

Willapa Valley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Blane King, who went 10 for 19 on his way to 20 points. King's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Nathan Fluke, who went 6 of 14 to rack up 13 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists.

Ocosta's loss dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Willapa Valley, the win was the 18th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-2.

Ocosta has already played their next game, a 62-53 defeat against Naselle on the 8th. As for Willapa Valley, they will square off against Oakville at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Willapa Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.5 points per game this season.
