Baseball Game Preview: Union City Indians vs. Seton Catholic Cardinals

The Union City Indians are taking a road trip to square off against the Seton Catholic Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Saturday, Union City got the win against Franklin Monroe by a conclusive 16-4.

Luke Collins was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Asa Vaughn also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Union City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Seton Catholic). Everything went their way against Indianapolis Shortridge on Saturday as they made off with a 22-7 win. With that victory, the Cardinals brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

The team relied heavily on Christopher Grujoski, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Zack Robinson was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.

Seton Catholic's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-11. As for Union City, their record now sits at 8-10.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Union City has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Seton Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Everything went Union City's way against Seton Catholic in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Union City made off with an 11-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
