Basketball Game Preview: Pine Island Panthers vs. Chatfield Gophers

Pine Island and Chatfield are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The Pine Island Panthers will square off against the Chatfield Gophers at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Pine Island has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 184 points over their last three matchups.

Pine Island is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took a 68-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cannon Falls. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (61), the Panthers still had to take the loss.

Meanwhile, Chatfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a 54-39 bruising from Zumbrota-Mazeppa. The game marked the Gophers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Pine Island's loss dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Chatfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10.

Pine Island suffered a grim 54-34 defeat to Chatfield when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Can Pine Island avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
