Baseball Game Preview: Northern Patriots vs. Westlake Wolverines

Northern has gone a perfect 6-0 against Westlake recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. Northern will challenge Westlake at 4:30 p.m. Northern will be strutting in after a win while Westlake will be coming in after a loss.

Northern's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They didn't even let Great Mills on the board, marking Northern's second-straight 11-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won four matchups by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Nick Barsczewski tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Northern let Miles Halbert and Connor Renzi run wild. Halbert went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Renzi scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That triple marked the first that Halbert hit this season. Tony Holson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Northern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .474. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Westlake was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Calvert, falling 20-2.

Westlake's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Northern, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Everything went Northern's way against Westlake in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Northern made off with a 20-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Northern since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
