Softball Recap: Fruitdale Comes Up Short

After flying high against Chickasaw last Tuesday, Fruitdale came back down to earth. The Fruitdale Pirates fell just short of the Washington County Bulldogs by a score of 14-12 on Friday. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Skylar Loper and Olivia Evans stepped up to the plate in a big way. Loper went 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Evans scored a run while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance gave Evans a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Gracie Robbins, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Fruitdale kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.2.

Fruitdale's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Washington County, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fruitdale will face off against Citronelle at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. We've got a battle between Bulldogs coming up.
