Baseball Recap: Magdalena Wins Going Away Against Oak Grove Classical Academy

Magdalena was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Oak Grove Classical Academy on Wednesday. The Steers were the clear victors by a 14-6 margin over the Owls. Considering the Steers have won three games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Mathew Lopez made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Lopez was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Jeffrey Stuteville was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Joseph Zamora, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Magdalena is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Oak Grove Classical Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Magdalena beat the Owls by a score of 14-4 later that day.
