Basketball Recap: Zachary Derstine Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat NV - Old Tappan

With a playoff win on the line, Wayne Valley rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They walked away with a 56-49 victory over the NV - Old Tappan Golden Knights. This was a revenge game for the Indians: when they faced off against the Golden Knights back in December of 2024, they had to take a 55-48 loss.

Wayne Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zachary Derstine, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 14 boards. Those 14 rebounds gave Derstine a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Veale, who went 8-for-14 on his way to 19 points and five boards.

Wayne Valley pushed their record up to 17-9 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.7 points over those games. As for NV - Old Tappan, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season.

Wayne Valley is taking a road trip to square off against NV - Demarest on Saturday. NV - Old Tappan does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
