St. Francis is 8-1 against Boyne City since June of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Gladiators will look to defend their home field against the Ramblers at 4:15 p.m. St. Francis is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
St. Francis' pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They blew past Traverse City Christian 8-0. Considering the Gladiators have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Scout Goldman's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sam Wildfong, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 11 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Kane, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
St. Francis was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Traverse City Christian only posted a batting average of .100.
Meanwhile, Boyne City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They came up short against Charlevoix, falling 6-0.
St. Francis is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Boyne City, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10-1.
Everything went St. Francis' way against Boyne City in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as St. Francis made off with a 12-2 win. Do the Gladiators have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Ramblers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
