Baseball Recap: Santiam Comes Up Short

Santiam had lost five straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-10 to make it six. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Central Linn Cobras. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Wolverines couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Central Linn, their win ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-9. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

For Central Linn's part, Beau Snyder tossed a big game, striking out ten batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Snyder is becoming a predictor of the Cobras' success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 3-1 (and 1-8 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Central Linn's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Helms, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Helms has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
