Recap: Lely Trojans vs. Gateway Eagles
The Lely Trojans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 76-65 to Gateway. While losing is never fun, Lely can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 494th, while Gateway is ranked 126th).
Tavian Cook was his usual excellent self, scoring 31 points along with six rebounds and six steals for Gateway. Cook hasn't dropped below 15points for six straight games. Qur'an Pettyjohn Jr was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Lely bumped their record down to 5-12 with that loss, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Gateway, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season.
Lely will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Community School of Naples at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gateway on the road again on Monday and play against Belen Jesuit at 2:30 p.m. on January 15th.
