Basketball Recap: Tolleson Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Tolleson won the last time they faced Skyline and things went their way on Thursday too. The Tolleson Wolverines rang in the new year with a 58-46 victory over the Skyline Coyotes. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Coyotes are ranked 263rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rico Blassingame was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards. Another player making a difference was Mikey Dauphin, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 13 points.

Tolleson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Skyline lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Tage Flodstrom, who posted 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Reyes, who put up 13 points.

Tolleson is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.4 points per game. As for Skyline, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Tolleson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 67-60 loss against Yuma Catholic on the 3rd. As for Skyline, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 54-32 defeat against Arcadia on the 3rd.
