Softball Game Preview: South Pemiscot Bulldogs vs. Bernie Mules

South Pemiscot is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Bernie is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Bulldogs will host the Mules at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While South Pemiscot didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 9-6 win over Caruthersville on Wednesday.

Phoenix Simmons was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, South Pemiscot let Mollie Moore and Graycn Trammel run wild. Moore scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Trammel scored a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Moore also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Khyla Edwards was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base.

Meanwhile, Bernie made easy work of Woodland on Wednesday and carried off a 23-13 victory. Considering the Mules have won 17 games by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Bernie is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for South Pemiscot, their victory bumped their record up to 11-3.
