Softball Recap: Port Byron Beats Bishop Ludden for Their Eighth Straight Victory

Port Byron had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Monday. Everything went their way against the Bishop Ludden Gaelic Knights as they made off with a 14-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won ten contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Jenna Jump made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bethany Jump, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Mallory Mills was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Port Byron pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Ludden, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-10-1.

Looking ahead, Port Byron will take on Lyons at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bishop Ludden does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
