Basketball Recap: Crab Orchard Comes Up Short

Crab Orchard has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 59-54 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hardin County Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Trojans of the 60-54 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2022.

Hardin County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nate Massie led the charge by dropping a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds. Massie has become a key player for Hardin County: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least eight boards, but 6-8 otherwise. Landon Fricker was another key player, going 8 of 15 to rack up 17 points and five assists.

Crab Orchard's defeat dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Hardin County, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-9 record this season.
