Baseball Recap: Campo Verde Finds Playoff Glory Versus Horizon

It's playoff time, and Campo Verde had no trouble coming through when it counted. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the Horizon Huskies on Wednesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Coyotes as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Anthony Flacco spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits. Campo Verde is 5-2 when Flacco allows one or fewer earned runs, but 8-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Xavier Roberson, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Campo Verde's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 10-13 when he doesn't). Ezekiel Zion was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

The win got Campo Verde back to even at 13-13. As for Horizon, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-9.

Looking ahead, Campo Verde will take on Canyon del Oro at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Dorados will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something the Coyotes surely won't give up without a fight. Horizon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
