Basketball Game Preview: Winthrop Ramblers vs. Maranacook Black Bears

Winthrop is 0-4 against Maranacook since February of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Winthrop Ramblers will square off against the Maranacook Black Bears at 6:30 p.m. Winthrop will be strutting in after a victory while Maranacook will be coming in after a loss.

On Tuesday, Winthrop didn't have too much trouble with Lisbon as they won 52-33. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Ramblers.

Meanwhile, Maranacook played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Spruce Mountain 84-32. While losing is never fun, the Black Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while the Phoenix are ranked 16th).

Winthrop pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Maranacook, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.

Winthrop might still be hurting after the 70-50 defeat they got from Maranacook when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Can Winthrop avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
