Basketball Recap: Lydia Hart Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Williamsville

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Athens had no problem doing just that on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Williamsville Bullets as they made off with a 44-23 win. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Athens got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lydia Hart out in front who went 5-for-11 to rack up 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Ava Bee, who went 5-for-6 en route to 12 points.

Athens smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Athens pushed their record up to 18-12 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.0 points over those games. As for Williamsville, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-20 record this season.

Coming up, Athens will face off against Pleasant Plains at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Williamsville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
