Rocky Mount took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against SouthWest Edgecombe, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Gryphons won by a run and slipped past the Cougars 6-5. The game was the first time the Gryphons have beaten the Cougars on their field since February 28, 2019.

Alex Beasley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Jack McKellar was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Battle, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Rocky Mount has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-6.

Rocky Mount has already played their next contest, a 14-3 loss against Nash Central on the 28th. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, they will head out on the road to square off against West Craven at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight.
