Softball Recap: Patapsco Takes a Loss

Patapsco extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-7 in the process. They lost 18-3 to the Dundalk Owls. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Owls this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-1 back in March.

As for Dundalk, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-7 Patapsco and 2-6 Western Tech & Environmental Science.

For Dundalk's part, Julie Burger made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Burger has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Makayla Woods was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Kenisha Gelpi was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Patapsco will face off against Western Tech & Environmental Science at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolverines have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season. As for Dundalk, they will take on Hereford at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Owls' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulls have averaged an impressive 11 runs per game this season.
