Football Recap: Dynamic Duo of Xavier Thompson and Ethan Martinez Lead Crescenta Valley to Victory

After losing to Burroughs the last time they met, Crescenta Valley decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Falcons secured a 34-28 W over the Bears on Friday.

Crescenta Valley was led to victory by Ethan MartinEz and Xavier Thompson. Martinez gained 157 total yards and three touchdowns, while Thompson gained 175 total yards and two touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Martinez a new career-high in rushing yards (111).

Crescenta Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 251 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 230 rushing yards in three consecutive games.

Crescenta Valley didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Aren Dilanchian and Thompson. Thompson also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because Crescenta Valley is 3-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise.

Burroughs lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Brandon Chapparo, who rushed for 80 yards and one TD on only nine carries, and also threw for 125 yards and one touchdown. Another player making a difference was Troy Acosta, who gained 82 total yards and two touchdowns.

Crescenta Valley now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Burroughs, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.

Crescenta Valley wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 56-20 victory against Arcadia on the 30th. As for Burroughs, they have also already played their next matchup, a 63-14 loss against Burbank on the 30th.
