League recap: Blakeney overpowering for Stringer in past week

1A Region 8 league recap: 3/13/13

Stringer's Chandler Blakeney was the best pitcher in 1A Region 8 this week. He racked up 11 strike outs this week.

Resurrection Catholic outpaced the rest of the league this week, as its four total wins led the league. The Eagles beat Dexter 17-0 and the Bulldogs 7-6.

Salem boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks.

Although the 33 runs scored by Resurrection Catholic topped the league, the Red Devils maintained their lead in the league with 66 runs this season.

The league boasted five .400 hitters over the past week. Leading the pack was Brett Welborn, who hit .571 by going 4-for-7.

Four RBIs over the past week allowed Stringer's Bo Buckley to boost his season output so far to nine, tops in the league.



Wayne County's Blakeney struck out eight the Red Devils hitters en route to an 8-5 victory on March 12. Over four innings of work, he gave up three hits and three runs.

Buckley was an RBI machine on Tuesday, as he knocked in four runs during Stringer's 18-8 win over Bay Springs. He went 3-for-3 and scored three runs.
