Softball Recap: Marshall Comes Up Short

Marshall extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 11 on Monday, dropping them down to 0-8. They came up short against the Izard County Cougars, falling 16-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bobcats of the 4-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

As for Izard County, their win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-10. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

For Izard County's part, Reese Johnson was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Johnson was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Addysyn Kinion was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Destiny Wisecarver also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Marshall will venture away from home to face off against Yellville-Summit at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Izard County, they will head out to take on Mammoth Spring at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
