Basketball Game Preview: La Porte Slicers vs. Mishawaka Marian Knights

The La Porte Slicers are taking a road trip to square off against the Mishawaka Marian Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

La Porte is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Portage on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. La Porte came up short against Portage, falling 79-54. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Slicers have suffered since February 16, 2024.

Meanwhile, Mishawaka Marian was able to grind out a solid victory over South Bend Adams on Friday, taking the game 65-53. The win continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.

La Porte better focus on containing Prescott Horvath and William Owens as the pair were huge in Mishawaka Marian's win. Horvath dropped a double-double with 28 points and 14 boards, while Owens almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine rebounds. What's more, Horvath posted four blocks, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Joaquin Wilson also deserves some recognition as he posted his first blocks of the season.

Mishawaka Marian was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

Mishawaka Marian's victory bumped their record up to 13-9. As for La Porte, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-8.

La Porte was dealt a bruising 83-40 loss at the hands of Mishawaka Marian when the teams last played back in December of 2017. Thankfully for La Porte, Michael Hemingway (who to rack up 36 points along with seven assists and six boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
