Baseball Game Preview: Appleton East Patriots vs. Appleton West Terrors

A classic East v. West matchup is on the schedule. The Appleton East Patriots will challenge the Appleton West Terrors at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Appleton West took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Appleton East, who comes in off a win.

Appleton East is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Oshkosh North on Thursday as they made off with a 13-1 win. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Patriots with their most commanding win of the season.

Meanwhile, Appleton West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Neenah. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Terrors have suffered against the Rockets since April 26, 2018.

Loren Georger was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Georger was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Georger wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Dimitry Edmunds, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Edmunds is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

Appleton East pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Appleton West, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.

Everything went Appleton East's way against Appleton West in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Appleton East made off with an 11-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
