Volleyball Recap: South Kitsap Comes Up Short

If South Kitsap was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Kentridge on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wolves fell 3-1 to the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles on Monday. The Wolves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

South Kitsap started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 24-26, 25-19, 25-19, 25-11.

Their offense was headlined by Kohana Castro and Elizabeth Pugh, who picked up six kills apiece. They got some help from Leilani Killian and her 21 assists. Finally, Maddie Schmidt kept South Kitsap's defense grounded, leading the team with four blocks.

Graham-Kapowsin's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ana Sei, who had 18 assists and eight digs. Sei has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more assists the last four times she's played. Kyla Kennedy was another key player, getting three digs and two aces.

South Kitsap's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Graham-Kapowsin, their victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2.

South Kitsap didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 defeat against Olympia on the 24th. As for Graham-Kapowsin, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Yelm on the 24th.
