Baseball Recap: Palmyra Takes a Loss

Palmyra had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-11 to make it ten. They lost 12-1 to the Mastery Warrior. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Panthers couldn't push the score so high this time.

Palmyra saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nick Rex, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Rex has brought in this season.

As for Mastery, their victory ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-6. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the contest before.

On Mastery's side, Raul Basilio was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Mastery is undefeated when Basilio allows three or fewer earned runs, but 1-6 otherwise. Basilio was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

In other batting news, Mastery got a big performance out of Luis Reyes, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Jonas Santiago was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Palmyra will look to defend their home field on Monday against Burlington City at 3:45 p.m. The Blue Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.89 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Mastery, they will head out to face off against Eastside at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
