Baseball Game Preview: George Wythe Maroons vs. Rural Retreat Indians

George Wythe hasn't had much luck against Rural Retreat recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Maroons will head out to face off against the Indians at 5:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

George Wythe came up short against Grayson County on Tuesday, falling 15-4.

Caden Golliher made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Rural Retreat fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Marion on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (8-7), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. They haven't had much luck with the Scarlet Hurricanes recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Trever Shelton put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, Brody Childers and Jake Rollyson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Childers scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Rollyson scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Rollyson is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

George Wythe now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Rural Retreat, their record now sits at 3-3.

George Wythe came up short against Rural Retreat in their previous matchup back in March, falling 5-1. Can the Maroons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
