Buckhannon-Upshur is 8-2 against Grafton since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Buccaneers will venture away from home to challenge the Bearcats at 6:00 p.m. Buckhannon-Upshur will be strutting in after a victory while Grafton will be coming in after a loss.
Buckhannon-Upshur was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Elkins on Thursday. The Buccaneers were the clear victors by a 13-7 margin over the Tigers. The Buccaneers haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Becca Pastorius was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Pastorius was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Abel, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Madi Knabenshue, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Buckhannon-Upshur kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Grafton unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Bridgeport by a score of 5-4.
Ruth Horne was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Karigan Wildroudt also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Grafton's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 6-3. As for Buckhannon-Upshur, their record is now 8-6.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Buckhannon-Upshur has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Grafton struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Buckhannon-Upshur was able to grind out a solid victory over Grafton when the teams last played back in March, winning 6-3. Will the Buccaneers repeat their success, or do the Bearcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
