Softball Recap: Mcewen Drops Highest Score of Season Against Hickman County

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask McEwen). They were the clear victors by a 13-7 margin over the Hickman County Bulldogs on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won four in a row.

Laila Downs-Darden was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two triples, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Lena Holt was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: McEwen kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.6.

McEwen's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Hickman County, they are on a 24-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Coming up, McEwen will venture away from home to square off against Perry County at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Hickman County, they will face off against Fairview at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Yellowjackets have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season.
