Western extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-10 in the process. They came up short against the Clay Panthers, falling 8-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in March.

Megan Whitley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and seven unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Western saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Ison, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. That run marked the first that Ison has scored this season.

In other batting news, Elin Shaw was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Emma Walker was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run.

Western does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Clay, they will square off against Alexander at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.31 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
