Football Game Preview: Gainesville Hurricanes vs. Baker County Wildcats

The Gainesville Hurricanes will take on the Baker County Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Gainesville comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Gainesville is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They and Hawthorne were almost perfectly matched up last Friday, but the Hurricanes suffered a 26-25 defeat.

Meanwhile, Baker County fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Baldwin on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 19-13 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indians. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Baker County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Samuriah Ruise threw for 138 yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 73 yards.

Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 2.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Jailei Watson for the heroic effort on defense: he made four total tackles. Baker County's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.9.

Gainesville's defeat dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Baker County, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.
