Basketball Game Preview: Dirigo Cougars vs. Sacopee Valley Hawks

The Dirigo Cougars will square off against the Sacopee Valley Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Dirigo might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 47-45 to Mountain Valley, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Dirigo saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Abigail Luczynski dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 57.8% of Dirigo's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Sophia Ni?o, who put up four points and eight boards.

Meanwhile, Sacopee Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They took a 37-26 hit to the loss column at the hands of Richmond. That's two games in a row now that the Hawks have lost by exactly 11 points.

Sacopee Valley's loss dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Dirigo, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-6.

Dirigo was able to grind out a solid victory over Sacopee Valley in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, winning 25-17. Does Dirigo have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sacopee Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
