Harlem strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They claimed a resounding 45-8 victory over the Jefferson J-Hawks. Given the Huskies' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 139th, while the J-Hawks are ranked 316th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Harlem's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dwayne Broom led the charge by rushing for 74 yards and one TD on only ten carries. Christian Serrano was in the mix too, providing the Huskies with two scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Harlem was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 213 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive contests.

Harlem didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jermaine Ransom and Griffin Reinecke. Ransom is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Harlem's record is now 4-0. As for Jefferson, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Looking ahead, Harlem will look to defend their home field on Friday against Guilford at 7:15 p.m. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Huskies 4.8, the Vikings 13.8) so any points scored will be well earned. As for Jefferson, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 36-12 defeat against Belvidere North on the 25th.
