Softball Recap: Grant Lancers vs. Northridge Academy Pumas
Grant had lost nine straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-8 to make it ten. They lost 30-0 to the Northridge Academy Pumas. The Lancers were not able to make up for their loss to the Pumas from their previous meeting back in February of 2023.
As for Northridge Academy, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-3. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Northridge Academy's part, Alondra Laguna and Val Montes were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Laguna struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Montes pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Laguna has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. At the plate, Laguna got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, five runs, and two stolen bases, while Montes got on base in four of her six plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs.
In other batting news, Jackie Nettles was incredible, firing off three home runs, five runs, and six RBI while going 4-for-4. Those three home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Guadalupe Ortiz, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, five runs, and three RBI.
Looking ahead, Grant is taking a road trip to challenge Canoga Park at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Northridge Academy, they will welcome Panorama at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pumas are facing the Pythons at the right time seeing as the Pythons are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
