Basketball Recap: Mater Brickell Academy Drops Highest Score of Season Against Pinecrest Prep

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mater Brickell Academy). They walked away with an 82-74 victory over the Pinecrest Prep Crocs on Monday. While the Bulls didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Mater Brickell Academy found their leader in sophomore Sebastien Rodriguez, who went 9-for-16 from beyond the arc to rack up 36 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rodriguez has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Elijah Avila, who posted seven points and ten rebounds.

Mater Brickell Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pinecrest Prep only pulled down eight.

Pinecrest Prep's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dwayne Toussaint, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 16 boards. Gabriel Guzman was another key player, putting up 21 points and three steals.

Mater Brickell Academy's record now sits at 7-4. As for Pinecrest Prep, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Mater Brickell Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 74-63 loss against Varela on the 10th. As for Pinecrest Prep, they have also already played their next matchup, an 81-80 win against Downtown Doral on the 10th.
