Baseball Game Preview: Rolling Meadows Mustangs vs. Conant Cougars

Rolling Meadows is 2-8 against Conant since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Mustangs will welcome the Cougars at 4:45 p.m. Rolling Meadows is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

Rolling Meadows' usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Wednesday's struggle, when Wheeling hitters got past them. The Mustangs came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 17-12 on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Mustangs sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Ryan Schneider was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Callum Paisley, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Meanwhile, Conant came up short against Hoffman Estates on Wednesday and fell 7-4.

Jacob Szpiganowicz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Rolling Meadows' win bumped their record up to 19-8. As for Conant, their loss dropped their record down to 11-14-1.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Rolling Meadows has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Conant struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
