Basketball Recap: Decatur Continues Road Dominance on Thursday

Decatur came tearing into Thursday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Mardela Warriors with a sharp 51-30 victory. The Seahawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.

Decatur got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Davin Chandler out in front who went 8 for 14 on his way to 18 points along with six rebounds and six steals. What's more, Chandler also racked up three blocks, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Caleb Loring was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 14 boards.

Decatur was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mardela only racked up four assists.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Darion Collins, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. Collins has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jo'Ziah Sherwood, who posted seven points and five rebounds.

Decatur's victory was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-3. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.5 points over those games. As for Mardela, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-6.

Decatur didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 65-51 win against Wicomico on the 8th. As for Mardela, they have also already played their next game, a 60-53 loss against Snow Hill on the 7th.
