The Brownsburg Bulldogs will venture away from home to face off against the McCutcheon Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Brownsburg is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs on Saturday, they were much more limited against Noblesville on Monday. They came up short against the Millers, falling 7-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their meetings with the Millers: they've now lost six in a row.
Brownsburg saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Canyon Koonce, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, McCutcheon won against Lebanon on Saturday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Mavericks didn't even let Seeger on the board, marking the Mavericks' second-straight 11-0 shutout. The win was nothing new for the Mavericks as they're now sitting on four straight.
Reed Grimes tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over 6.1 innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sam Swank, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Aiden Riser was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
McCutcheon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
McCutcheon's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-10. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Brownsburg, their loss dropped their record down to 13-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Brownsburg has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like McCutcheon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Brownsburg's way against McCutcheon in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, as Brownsburg made off with an 11-1 victory. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Mavericks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
