Baseball Recap: Catoosa Beats Checotah for Their Third Straight Victory

Catoosa entered their tilt with Checotah on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 10-5 victory over the Wildcats. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 17-9 last Monday.

Tanner Casey made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Catoosa's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jerett McMains, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Catoosa is 4-1 when McMains posts two or more runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Ryder Stidham was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

The win got Catoosa back to even at 8-8. As for Checotah, they dropped their record down to 3-15 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Catoosa will head out to take on Edison at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Checotah, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Stilwell at 5:00 p.m.
